As an ex-teacher and outreach worker who has successfully built a thriving career in the field of baby and toddler sleep (check out Lavender Blue Sleep Consulting) I’m here to tell you that you don’t need a background in business and marketing to earn more as a sleep consultant. My journey from a sleep-deprived parent to an award-winning sleep consultant and founder of The Parenting Experts Academy proves what’s possible with the right strategies, education and mindset. I’ve since developed my ‘IPADS’ System, a proven framework designed to help you earn more as a sleep consultant while making a huge difference to families lives.
My Journey into Business
Like many sleep consultants, my path into sleep consulting was driven by personal experience. When my daughter was STILL waking up five times a night at age four, I knew something had to change. Through hiring a sleep consultant I discovered the power of sleep training, understanding behavioural strategies and implementing boundaries, which inspired me to retrain as a sleep consultant myself.
From there, I:
- Became an award-winning sleep consultant
- Was (and still am) regularly featured in the press
- Quickly reached capacity with my 1:1 services
- Doubled my turnover year on year and therefore increased my own salary so I could earn more as a sleep consultant
- Experimented with outsourcing but found maintaining service quality a challenge
- Created The Parenting Experts Academy to train other professionals

Business Growth Milestones
To show you what is achievable, here is my journey along with financial milestones:
- Year 1: During lockdown, while homeschooling my four-year-old and caring for a newborn, I turned over £15,000.
- Year 2: I quit my (almost) full-time job, initially doing both while I worked my notice, worked 20 hours a week around school and nursery, and doubled my income to £30,000.
- Year 3: By raising my prices and introducing workshops and corporate well-being sessions, I achieved a turnover of £60,000.
- Year 4: Diversifying into training other sleep consultants increased my turnover to £120,000.
- Year 5: I’m refining my career path and specialising in only working with children aged 3+
Through The Parenting Experts Academy, it’s my mission to help other parenting professionals refine their business strategies, build financial stability, and earn earn more as a sleep consultant.
Enter…..My strategies for growing your income – the IPADS system.
The IPADS System for Income Growth
Each component of the IPADS System represents a key strategy to earn more as a sleep consultant:
- I – Increase marketing and sales efforts
- P – Price services higher
- A – Add new services
- D – Diversify the business
- S – Specialise in a niche
Let’s take a deeper look into each strategy.
1. Increase Marketing and Sales Efforts
Selling your services can feel uncomfortable at first, but shifting your mindset to SERVING families can make all the difference. If you don’t tell people about what you’re doing and how you can help them, you’re actually doing them a disservice.
First of all, have a think about what’s working for you. This could be:
- Posting in Facebook groups
- Instagram stories
- Sending emails to those who download your free guide
- Chatting to people at baby groups
- Hosting masterclasses for nurseries
Look back at where your last 5 clients came from, and double (or treble, or quadruple) your efforts in those areas. If your social media posts are doing well organically, consider putting some ad spend behind them to get more leads in. But beware, please don’t do this if your social media posts aren’t doing well – there will be a reason for it and spending on ads will be throwing money down the drain.
2. Price Your Services Higher
Many sleep consultants set their prices too low out of fear that clients won’t pay more, or they will be judged. However, pricing too low can send the wrong message about quality, so charge your worth and position yourself as an expert. Also remember, the lower you prices your services the harder you will have to work and the more clients you will need to earn more as a sleep consultant. As an example, to make £1000 you can work with:
- 10 clients at £100 each
- 4 clients at £250 each
- 2 clients at £500 each
Which will you choose?
3. Add New Services
Expanding your service offerings can help you to earn more as a sleep consultant without an increased workload. Examples of ways in which you can do this include:
- Run online courses or workshops for parents seeking help with their children’s sleep, for example focused on early waking
- Consider introducing a high-ticket VIP service at £1,000+ per client
- Introduce corporate well-being sessions at £500+ per session
I’ve personally done all of these myself and can highly recommend them as a way to bring in new leads, earn more as a sleep consultant and help more families.
4. Diversify the Business
Expanding into complementary areas allows you to earn more as a sleep consultant with multiple revenue streams. Some ways I have seen sleep consultants diversify include:
- Mentoring parent coaches in social media
- Training sleep consultants to become autism sleep specialists
- Developing a sleep consultant CPD charity
A diversified approach will give you more financial freedom and security and help you to earn more as a sleep consultant.
5. Specialise in a Niche
Becoming a recognised expert and getting really specific on who you help can attract high-paying clients. Some examples include:
- Beth who loves working with newborns
- Lindsey specialises in working with autistic children
- Gemma tailors her support to toddler sleep
- I love working with children 3+ and teaching them mindfulness techniques for relaxation
Think about how can you do that in your business. Do you need further training or experience? To specialise, consider additional training like the brand new Children’s Mindfulness Practitioner Programme.
